The University of Northern Iowa, the City of Cedar Falls and the Cedar Falls Community School District were awarded $500,000 by the Black Hawk County Gaming Association for a joint project to construct a new shared-use, multi-court tennis facility. The new tennis complex will replace the current courts at the school district’s Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex, located along W. 12th Street, and the courts on the UNI campus along Hudson Road, all which have reached their useful life.
The proposed tennis complex will feature eight courts with site amenities. The tennis complex will be developed in three phases with Phase 1 commencing with design work in October 2016 and construction in spring 2017.
The UNI tennis courts support academic classes, intramural, club and team opportunities for play. While serving university uses, the UNI tennis courts also have been an important facility for the City of Cedar Falls Recreation Programs.
It is estimated that the new tennis complex will serve more than 3,000 local individuals annually.
